By using a three-fold process of (1) Natural Oxygenation (2) TriPollar Radio Frequency to create an anti-aging skin firming effect, and the (3) smoothening ability of Ultrasound, your skin is treated to not only an immediate visible skin improvement, but also long-lasting rejuvenation effects.
Currently, Geneo is the only device in the market that offers this unique combination of advanced technology. Working on both the outside and inside of the skin, Geneo brings together the power of nature and technology to create a natural glow to the skin.
How it works
Step 1
Geneo first starts with a gentle exfoliation of the skin whereby the gentle vibration and granular breakdown of the OxyPod helps lift away dead skin cells.
The OxyPod is an innovative capsule that combines ground-breaking concepts in biology, chemistry and technology. The active ingredients are protected in a suspended state, keeping them fresh and are only activated when in contact with the Geneo Primer Gel. Together, the OxyPod and Geneo Primer Gel create a three-in-one effect of Exfoliation, Oxygenation and Nourishment for the skin.
During the exfoliation process, you will feel a series of light, tiny microbubbles coating the skin with a rich layer of CO2. This triggers the body´s red blood cells to respond by sending a powerful surge of rich oxygen to the skin.
What this does is encourage better skin function and increase the skin's absorption of the active ingredients, resulting in radiant skin. This creates the optimum conditions to fully nourish the skin from the inside out, leading to a visible transformation.
Step 2
Next is a 20-minute Tripollar Radiofrequency treatment. This is used to stimulate the fibroblast cells and produce more collagen and kickstart elastin regeneration in the dermis. This allows the skin to gently smoothen, firm up, and plump out fine lines and wrinkles. It is a safe and effective treatment that heats the skin tissue from deep within without damaging the epidermis. The best thing is, the effect lasts for weeks post-treatment, extending the pleasure and enjoyment of healthy skin.
Step 3
To complete the treatment, ultrasound waves are used to create micro-vibrations to smooth the skin instantly. This process also increases the permeability of the skin's protective layer, improving nutrient absorption.
Note that Geneo is a hands-free massage treatment that sculpts the face, reducing redness and puffiness. The treatment is safe and highly effective, and the results are simply extraordinary. Many love it for its instant results, and the comfortable, brightening feel of the skin after treatment.
Step 4 (Perks)
At Pure Tincture, we want you to enjoy the full benefit of a restful treatment and that’s why we include one mask at the end of the treatment to fully pamper the skin and give it an added boost. Speak to our therapists to learn more about which specific mask is most suitable for your needs.
Ingredients used
Geneo’s OxyPod ingredients use naturally sourced vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Examples of these ingredients include Bamboo Charcoal, Green Tea Extract, Blue Spirulina, Red Algae, Vitamin C, Argan and Jojoba oils, antioxidants and peptides.
These ingredients are delivered into the skin in the freshest and most efficacious form possible, and they come to life once they come in contact with the Geneo Primer Gel.
Who it is for
Geneo can be used on a wide variety of skin types, ages and needs. It is perfect for those who simply want to maintain the health of the skin. Others find it useful for targeting specific skin conditions. If you are looking to rejuvenate the skin after a surgical procedure, Geneo can help to maintain and enhance skin improvement.
At Pure Tincture, we offer OxyPod in Hydrate, Illuminate, Gold, Detox and Balance for different skin targets.
Benefits
The power of Geneo is in its ability to fully utilise the body’s natural rejuvenating powers. Many are talking about it as the facial of the future given its many benefits. It's like having the best of all the different facials in one.

]]>Our skin is our first point of contact with the world; it can hold precious information about how our bodies respond to our immediate environment—both internal and external!
We already know that the UV light of the sun, climate, air quality and seasonal changes are some of the external environmental factors that impact the skin’s ability to perform its complex duties. Add skin type, diet and lifestyle to the bill, and we can only conclude that our skin is owed a debt of faithful maintenance.
Whilst there is plenty we can do to support the natural process of keeping our skin nourished and hydrated from within—plentiful rest, nutrient-rich foods and ample water consumption—a well-considered skin care regimen tailored to our skin type and environment is imperative to supporting skin hydration.
When it comes to ultimate skin hydration, we turn to products that contain Hyaluronic acid for the best results. Read on to discover why you should care about hydration and if Hyaluronic acid is worth adding to your skincare lineup!
Why Hydration is Essential to Skincare
Why should you care about hydration? As a principle part of the composition of our bodies, water is both what we contain and require. Replenishing its frequently expended stores is crucial to preserving a healthy level of hydration in our bodies and, significantly, in our skin.
From a basic cosmetic standpoint, a hydrated complexion looks more plump, healthy and youthful looking. Having an adequately hydrated face will help to improve skin elasticity which will reduce the appearance of wrinkles!
You might not have guessed it, but hydrated skin also helps to combat oiliness! Dehydrated skin produces more oil because it compensates for the lack of moisture. A lot of the time, people believe that the best course of action is to try to dry out the skin (by using harsh drying agents and cleansers on their face), which is totally a common misconception! This often results in a long-term problematic cycle that could have been easily treated with a proper understanding of what the skin needs to stay optimally hydrated.
Balanced skin needs both hydration and oil to bind to each other. If your skin is out of balance with either one of them, you may experience dry skin or compromised skin barrier conditions caused by transepidermal water loss. If you feel your skin is constantly dry despite using good face oils, try adding a good HA serum to your regime to allow good oil and water binding.
Dehydrated skin is also less resilient to environmental irritants. When your skin is fully hydrated, it can fight and flush out toxins more effectively because your cells get the maximum amount of hydration needed to function at their best.
So, with all that said, how, what, and where does Hyaluronic Acid come into the mix?
What is Hyaluronic Acid (or HA)
The phrase Hyaluronic Acid (or HA) may sound a little intimidating at first — like one of those super-intense acid peels that do more harm than good— but the truth is, hyaluronic acid is so natural. It’s produced by our own bodies to help with moisture retention!
Hyaluronic acid (or HA) is a sugar molecule found naturally in our bodies that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Hyaluronic acid acts as a lubricant for the joints, nerves, skin, and other organs. As a moisture binder, it draws moisture from its surroundings to cushion, plump, and maintain hydration for our body.
Besides giving the skin a smoother and plumper appearance, Hyaluronic Acid is also attributed to accelerating skin repair and strengthening barrier functions. Ideal for all skin types, even sensitive skin types, this lightweight hydrator can be used both day and night to maintain a fresh and dewy complexion.
Multiple Forms of Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid can be amazing, but not all hyaluronic acid serums on the market are made the same way—which means they won't do the same job. Below are some key components of a quality hyaluronic acid serum you should be looking for. Hint: the best hyaluronic acid for skin will incorporate a mix of the primary kinds: low, high or multi-molecular HA.
High molecular weight hyaluronic acid consists of molecules of 1,500 kD and is larger, making it unable to penetrate the skin barrier as easily. Instead, it forms a film with the skin's keratin on evaporation, moisturising the skin’s surface whilst improving its elasticity. This film, however, is washed off relatively quickly, offering more of a cosmetic rather than a long-term effect. This type of HA has anti-inflammatory properties, so it can actually be quite nurturing and soothing either way!
Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid makes it possible to penetrate the skin effectively as it consists of molecules of 50 kD and is smaller! They dive deep down, ensuring that water is stored right into the connective tissue of the skin. That said, when using low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, the moisture is stored in the skin sustainably, truly addressing fine lines, wrinkles, and skin elasticity through and through. These molecules help create healthy, happy skin in the long term.
Multi-molecular weight hyaluronic consists of both weights, which makes it possible to achieve different effects on the skin. A mix of these molecular forms can deliver what we really want from a hyaluronic acid serum: a super-hydrating powerhouse that can make us look great in the moment and can make our skin healthier and younger-looking in the future, too.
The Ultimate Hydration Protocol
Skin hydration is, of course, more than just the use of HA products. It should consist of a well-rounded regime! Here’s what we feel is the ultimate hydration regime for all skin types:
Step #1: Cleanser
A clean canvas is crucial if you want your skincare products to work their best. Hence, a cleanser should come first.
Pure Tincture tip for a deeper clean (something we practice in all our facial treatments): Try double cleansing! Double cleansing is a method that involves washing your face twice. First with an oil-based cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and makeup, and then again with a foaming cleanser to ensure a deep clean.
Step #2: Toner
Once your skin is clean and dry, the second step in your routine is to apply toner. The purpose of a toner is twofold: First, to remove any oil, dirt, or residue that remains after cleansing, and secondly, to prepare your skin for the more concentrated treatments, like serums, that you’ll be applying later in your routine.
Step #3: Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Serum*
Serums are one of the most essential parts of your skincare routine and should always follow your toner. When considering the best serum, you'll want to choose a hydrating serum that provides moisture and shields against environmental aggressors like pollution.
*See below for our tip HA product recommendations
Step #4: Facial Oil (optional)
Be sure to apply moisturiser in the form of oil, lotion or cream after the HA Serum to ensure that moisture stays on the skin and does not get absorbed into the atmosphere (HA goes into the atmosphere if the air is dryer, for instance. Think air-con atmospheres!). Next among your skincare routine steps is applying face oil! If you have oily skin, you may be wary of putting oil directly on your skin out of fear of breaking out. However, if applied properly, using a facial oil can actually help keep your skin balanced since hydrated skin often produces less oil than dehydrated skin.
Step #5: Moisturiser
Unsurprisingly, moisturiser is one of the best skin care products for dehydrated skin, and it's important to use it morning and night. Choose a lighter moisturiser for daytime and a heavier cream for nighttime.
Step #6: Sunscreen
We know you know it, but we’ll say it again—wearing sunscreen every day is a vital aspect of any daily skincare routine. Get your morning face routine order right by applying sunscreen daily after moisturising. It's particularly important to wear sunscreen when you have dry skin because harsh UV rays can cause further damage, making your skin drier, stressed, and unbalanced. Be sure to reapply it often when you're outdoors in the sun.
Step #7: Eye Cream
If you have dry skin, it's also essential not to forget your eye cream. Make this the last step of your routine, sweeping a tiny bit under the eyes and below the brows. The skin around the eye is some of the most delicate on the body, so it needs a little extra care.
Pure Tincture’s Recommended Hyaluronic Acid Products
In determining the right components of your skin care regimen, it is vital to select a hydrator that responds not only to the specific needs of your skin type, but to the effects of your daily environment. It is also important to consider your own preferences for texture and skin-feel. For some, a serum or a concentrate with low-to-medium viscosity–or a light, fluid lotion–may be appealing. Others will find gels, or richer creams and oils, to be more favourable. All formulations are available! The choice is yours.
]]>It seems like almost every person wants to live, but no one wants to age! We can’t deny that youthful, clean and vibrant skin is what we’d all like to achieve, especially as we age... If you were considering Botox or fillers at some point, think again! There are many other safer alternatives to allow you to age gracefully.
Here at Pure Tincture, we always welcome new innovative, but most importantly, safe and minimally invasive and deeply supportive skincare procedures that can help you achieve all your skincare goals.
After many months of research, we have decided to introduce this safe and effective anti-ageing treatment to our clients — Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as Microneedling. Indeed, we can still look good even in our 40s and beyond!
What Is It and How Does It Work?
As intimidating as it sounds, Microneedling is not as scary and invasive. Microneedling is a highly effective skin rejuvenation treatment designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars on the face and body.
Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The pinpricks from this controlled procedure cause slight injury to the skin, and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. This new skin tissue is more even in tone and texture. It's common for the skin to lose collagen with age or injury.
The treatment uses tiny needles on a medical-grade dermal pen that is moved over the skin to create tiny, evenly-spaced puncture wounds on the epidermis layer. These continuous pinpricks and minor wounds trigger the body’s natural response of creating new collagen-rich tissue, all on its own! You can think of it as regrowing a new, firmer, more even-toned skin.
The best part about Microneedling is that it requires almost zero downtime compared to other more aggressive cosmetic procedures. It is also safe for most individuals when performed by a professional. Besides a little redness and slight irritation, clients don’t have much else to worry about!
Ok, but what is Collagen?
All this talk about collagen! We hear the word gets thrown around in the beauty and wellness industry lately. But what is it?
Well, collagen comes from the Greek word for glue, and it literally holds our body together. It’s the most common protein in the human body. Collagen provides strength and cushioning to many parts of the body, including the skin. Collagen breaks down as we age or attain injuries, causing our skin to wrinkle and sag. This is where Microneedling can help you achieve the skin that will make you look years younger and help renew the vibrancy in your glow!
Alongside Microneedling, following a collagen-boosting diet full of protein-rich foods, whether from plant or animal sources, can help supply these critical amino acids. Other nutrients that aid the collagen production process include zinc, vitamin C, and copper. So, fruits and vegetables high in vitamins and minerals are also a friend to supple skin, as well as a diet rich in natural Essential Fatty Acids to help with effective skin recovery.
Benefits of Microneedling
From our experience, by Microneedling at least once per month, you can improve the appearance of the following:
As well as:
How A Session Looks Like
Curious to know how it works? The Microneedling experience with us begins with a welcome essential oil to ground your senses, followed by a double cleanse and application of numbing cream, which takes approximately 10-15 minutes to take effect, and lastly, a generous amount of OSEA’s Hyaluronic Sea Serum.
Once the numbing cream has been activated, the skin is thoroughly treated with the dermal roller pen with emphasis on areas of concern. This is where the gentle stimulation of fibroblast promotes natural induction of collagen and elastin without the stress of pain and lengthy downtime associated with ablative treatments. Once we have finished with the derma roller pen, we enhance your results by completing the treatment with a Red LED light treatment to accelerate skin repair and healing, followed by a finishing application of moisture and an exit essential oil to carry you throughout the day.
The skin might look slightly red or pinkish for a few days up to one week. However, you will still be able to continue with your daily activities. Once it subsides, expect a significant boost in collagen and elastin using the skin’s natural renewal process to create smoother, glowing skin! Skin feels tighter, pores smaller, and lines soften; expect overall skin clarity as well.
Who shouldn't needle or should see your doctor first regardless?
If you have melasma, be very careful! It is a tricky skin condition that can be either helped from needling or flare from needling!
See a doctor if you have diabetes, thyroid conditions, active acne, pustule rosacea, UTIs, or immune diseases, before scheduling an appointment.
Schedule
We recommend three sessions at one-month intervals (total three months) to see collagen induction results. After the third month, we will recommend an alternative between Mircroneedling and regular facial with Radio Frequency as maintenance.
With all that said…
Microneedling may be one of the best options available today for skin renewal. It is highly effective and truly natural as it relies on the body to heal and regenerate itself!
Now, with that said — It’s time to leave behind all the complicated external and harmful collagen products and procedures and invite your body to create its collagen naturally from the inside out. Schedule a consultation with one of our therapists to see how collagen induction therapy can help to heal your skin.

Have you ever wondered what your best girl friends keep in their bags to keep them going? We definitely have. That’s why we asked Helen, our founder, to spill the goods (literally), and show us her everyday beauty and hair care must-haves as she is out and about during a long day—running a business, taking care of her children and family and maintaining a social life!
Although, Helen changes up her home skincare routine once every 2-3 months as she has to review many different skincare brands to assess its suitability and claims, there are a number of key items she just doesn’t leave home without—prepared for whatever crisis or situation that may come her way.
Good to know:
Helen Skin Bio: Combination with inclination towards dryness, with some uneven skin tone on her cheeks /chin and skin slack.

What’s In My Bag?
Below, Helen shares with us her portable skincare favourites and secret to her porcelain texture and naturally radiant skin, whilst on the go!
Odacite Aventurine Kiss Lip Serum
A triple-action serum formulated for the vertical lines of the lip area to visibly plump the look of the lips. Powered by clinical actives, Vitamin C and CoQ10.
Helen: Love it for its cool minty feel and how it makes my lips look plumper. I haven’t been using lipstick for 2 years and it has slowly creeped into a habit. This lip roller makes me looks like I have a lip gloss on in place of a lipstick. I used it at least 2-3 times a day.
The quickly absorbing hand cream pampers the skin with intensive care and protects it from drying out. Pure aloe vera juice moisturises and, combined with sea-buckthorn extract, regenerates. Almond oil, shea and cocoa butter have a nourishing and protective effect. Gives stressed hands a smooth and soft skin feeling.
Helen: A handy sized hand cream. I ALWAYS have a hand cream in my bag thanks to my dry-hands DNA. I didn’t like how it looks and feel. This cream helps to fill in the lines for softer looking and comfortable hands. It absorbs very rapidly leaving no oily stains.
Comb
Helen: I got this small handle wooden comb from Japan. Love it for its sandalwood scent and its good size. I have sensitive scalp and edge of this comb doesn’t cut my scalp. It gives it a nice massage feel.
Face Moisturiser in Stick or Roller
Helen: I got this L’odaites Nourishing Balm stick in my bag. Often use it before a dinner to fill in the dry lines under my eyes and edges of my mouth. Some may think its not very hygienic to apply on half day thru but I think its better unhygenic than turning up for dinner w a flaky face. Lol
Hand Sanitising Gel
Helen: A must.
Small perfume
Helen: A small perfume stick. Who doesn’t want to smell great at any point of the day?
Concealer
Helen: I always have concealer in my bag! I use it as a touch up or as foundation before making my way to dinner, after a long day. It is really important to me as I wouldn’t want to look blotchy and tired, even if I really am feeling that way.

]]>Read on as we break down three of the most common sensitive skin conditions we experience commonly here at Pure Tincture, as well as some resources, and actionable steps you can adopt right away to get started on your skin’s healing journey.
A deeper look into what may be contributing to your skin sensitivities
Other than first knowing what type of sensitive skin you have, we recommend reviewing your daily routines and habits to see what can be improved on before you go further with your treatments.
Common factors from our clients are eczema/ acne flaring up a week before your period, reaction to food consumption, redness flare from hot weather and stress triggers.
Once you have covered all your immediate bases, it’s time to look deeper into what you might be experiencing. The quickest way to determine this is to come down for one of our organic facial treatments. This way, we can offer you a full skin assessment and curate an experience where you get to thoroughly test out the products that could be a potential game-changer for your skin.
Read on as we share some of our most trusty, tried and tested products for varying skin conditions.
Caring for your skin sensitivities with the right products
If you suspect that you may be experiencing any of these skin conditions — Redness, Eczema, or Acne, we have some products to recommend. These products are frequently used during and after our treatments and have worked wonders in improving the skin conditions of many of our clients who experience redness, eczema or acne.
Redness
Skin redness can have many different causes and can range from sunburns, friction burns, inflammatory skin conditions such as dermatitis or eczema, heat rashes, folliculitis, rosacea, or even drug allergies!
Although certain causes are more severe than others and may require medical treatment, we have found these products to work well for the less serious conditions when it comes to skin redness.
Eczema
Eczema comes in a number of forms, and anyone can be affected by it! Although each eczema type has its own set of symptoms and triggers, the most common symptoms for all types of eczema are dry, scaly skin, redness, hyperpigmentation and itching.
If there is one thing we have learnt over the years, it is that one of the most important parts of eczema care is keeping your skin moist. Reapply reapply reapply moisturizer as often as possible. You should also take steps to avoid triggers, which can help you prevent flares. More so, because your skincare routine will vary based on your triggers and what you’re planning to do each day, it’s best to get a well-rounded view of how to care for your skin in different scenarios.
If you have trouble developing an effective routine, check-in with one of our qualified therapists to provide you with more specific recommendations that may help your individual situation.
Some products we swear (tried and tested!!) by when it comes to caring for Eczema include:
Pro Tip by the MV team: Smooth just 2 drops of Pure Jojoba over the face and neck before showering, providing protection from the often harsh and drying effects of water and preserving the skin microbiome!
Acne
Acne is a skin disorder characterised by changes in your sebaceous glands (oil glands), which cause plugs to form in skin follicles, resulting in blackheads or whiteheads. Swollen, inflamed pimples or, in severe situations, deep nodules or cysts can form from either type of blockage.
When it comes to acne, it is not always so easy to guess its cause. It could range from having enlarged sebaceous glands and increased sebum production to hormonal activity, genetics, stress, exposure to certain ingredients in personal care products, a high GI or high carbohydrate diet, and even contraceptive pill and IUD (birth control devices)! You just never know!
Whatever the cause, we want to focus on avoiding clogging the pores, and allowing build-ups and bacteria to grow on the skin. Although we believe in using clean and organic skincare, we also believe that extra help goes a long way! The technology we use in our customised treatments today, including LED, allows us to boost cell regeneration and combat acne-causing bacteria as well as soothe sensitive skin in a way that would be difficult to achieve without the help of these technologies.
However, although you may not always have the chance to come down for regular facials, you should still care for it regularly at home with supportive products. Some of our favourites for acne-prone skin have always helped our clients and we recommend it 100% wholeheartedly that it will work for you.

]]>Although you're most likely getting vitamin C through your diet, there's no way to know if it's reaching your skin. Therefore, the most direct way to get these benefits is to use serums and other topical products.
Topical antioxidants like Vitamin C serve to offset daily aggressors like UV damage and exposure to air pollution in the same way that we consume antioxidant-rich diets to help fight free radicals.
Read on to learn more about why we love using Vitamin C products in our skincare routine. We also share some products on our shelves for you to try to reap the benefits of this underrated ingredient!
Skin Benefits of Vitamin C
Vitamin C's skin-saving benefits aren't just limited to fighting off radicals and protecting you from the sun. It can also help your skin in multiple other ways. Here are some:
Safe for most skin types
For one, Vitamin C based products are suitable for most skin types, as it's known to have an excellent safety record. Most people can utilise topical vitamin C for a long time without suffering any side effects. However, it is good to note that people with hypersensitive skin may notice slight irritation in some circumstances. Consider a patch test or consult your doctor before fully introducing any new product to your skincare routine!
It promotes collagen production & helps prevent skin sagging
Collagen formation is known to be boosted by vitamin C. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that is tied to skin elasticity and firmness. As you become older, your skin may begin to sag as your collagen levels decline, causing fine lines and wrinkles.
According to a 2017 review, applying a vitamin C serum may stimulate collagen formation, resulting in an overall tightening effect. This is true whether the drooping is caused by natural ageing, oxidative stress, or excessive weight reduction.
Helps fade hyperpigmentation
Sunspots, age spots, and melasma (a skin condition characterized by brown or blue-grey patches or freckle-like spots) are examples of hyperpigmentation, which occurs when melanin is overproduced in certain areas of the skin. It can also occur in regions where acne has cured but left scars. Vitamin C has been demonstrated to inhibit melanin formation, resulting in a more even complexion.
Anti-inflammatory qualities
The anti-inflammatory properties of vitamin C may neutralise oxidative damage caused by free radicals, reducing immune responses, and instead optimises the immune system. Vitamin C's anti-inflammatory qualities can also aid in diminishing redness on the skin and may help with wound healing resulting in a more even complexion with decreased dark spots, redness, and irritation.
Using a Vitamin C serum for sensitive skin
Although topical vitamin C is generally well-tolerated, any skin product might induce adverse effects. Always perform a patch test to determine your risk of an allergic reaction especially if you have sensitive skin or a history of allergy.
Vitamin C serums are usually used once or twice daily. It is better to use it in the morning as it has benefits to help the skin fend off the oxidative effects of sunlight. Following the sequence of cleansing, toning, applying a vitamin C serum, and then moisturising last. Serums should always be administered before your regular moisturiser, as a general rule!
For sensitive skin which reacts to Vitamin C serums, you can consider either (1) mixing it with some aloe vera gel or hydrating gel or (2) applying it after moisturiser until your skin builds a certain tolerance to the active effect of Vitamin C.
Alternatively, look for Vitamin C containing alternative derivatives of L-ascorbic acid. (read below)
It is important to note that Vitamin C does not replace the use of sunscreen or wearing sun-protective clothing. Use a broad-spectrum, tinted sunscreen every day and avoid the sun during peak hours.
Who Should Avoid Using Vitamin C
Vitamin C Serum is suitable for everybody, though we will not suggest using it on very small children (who would anyway?)
Where to find topical vitamin C and what to look for on the label
Serums and other skincare treatments include vitamin C. Vitamin C strength and effects on the skin can vary depending on the formulation. Look for vitamin C products that have a formulation containing an active form of vitamin C (for example, L-ascorbic acid), a strength of 10% to 20%, and a pH of less than 3.5, as this combination has been studied in clinical trials.
A little about Vitamin C products we love, along with our recommendations and specific type of Vitamin C in each product to look out for:
The Organic Pharmacy Stabilized Vitamin C Serum
Our recommendation: Suitable for oily, normal skin
Type of Vitamin C: Ascorbyl Glucoside
Percentage of Vitamin C: 15%
This serum contains a percentage of 15% of Ascorbyl Glucoside (a type of plant derivative stabilised vitamin C). It is fine for use with sensitive skin, as Ascorbyl Glucoside is not as harsh on the skin as ascorbic acid which is an unstable vitamin (this form of vitamin C has to come in a brown bottle to be protected from light and also has to be protected from oxygen). The vitamin contents in this product are much more stable and are unlikely to cause irritation to the skin.
Odacite Private Collection: An Autumn On The World (15% Vitamin C Serum)
Our recommendation: Suitable for ultra-sensitive skin and dry skin.
Type of vitamin C: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, a very stable oil-soluble Vitamin C ester.
Percentage of Vitamin C: 15%
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a form of vitamin C which has been modified to be soluble in oil or lipids. Studies indicate that it not only penetrates the epidermis, the uppermost layer of skin, but also the dermis, which is the deepest layer of skin. In fact, it penetrates the skin faster and deeper than any other form of vitamin C.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate stimulates more collagen than L-ascorbic acid, so you tend to enjoy better anti-ageing, more plumping, more firming, and more collagen production with this ingredient.
Venn Age-Response Compound K Hyaluronic Booster
Our recommendation: For all skin types. Dermatologist tested. Non-irritating. Non-sensitizing.
Type of vitamin C: Ginsenoside Compound K
Percentage of Vitamin C equivalent: 30%
Venn’s anti-ageing and brightening boosting serum are supercharged with 2,700 ppm of VENN’s patented form of Ginsenoside Compound K, a key anti-ageing active in Panax ginseng with free-radical-fighting antioxidant power as strong as Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) but without oxidation and sensitization issues.
The booster features VENN’s patented technology to water-solubilize Compound K in high concentrations and effectively deliver brighter, firmer, and more even-looking skin.
The booster is also packed with 5 different types of medium- and high-weight hyaluronic molecules, Peptides, Polyamine, Glutathione, and Vitamins B1, B2, B3 (Niacinamide), and B9 that work synergistically with Compound K to provide comprehensive anti-ageing skin benefits, including a visible reduction in the appearance of pores, fine lines, wrinkles, discolouration and redness.
Our recommendation: Suitable for normal, dry skin.
Type of Vitamin C: Ethyl Ascorbic Acid
Percentage of Vitamin C: Not revealed due to proprietary
OSEA’s anti-ageing serum uses Ethyl Ascorbic Acid. It is also known as 3-O-Ethyl-L-ascorbic Acid. It is a molecule formed by modifying Ascorbic Acid or, as we know it better, vitamin C.
Ethyl ascorbic acid is the most effective among the three in boosting collagen synthesis and lightening skin, with over 80% metabolized to pure L-ascorbic acid.
Although the team at OSEA values transparency, they do not share percentages and proprietary information about any of their formulas. With that said, OSEA did confirm (we notice too!) that the vitamin c ingredient is listed #9 out of the 35 to 40 ingredients in the bottle, which means it is pretty intensive.
All in all, Vitamin C can aid in the healing of blemishes, reducing hyperpigmentation, and creating an incredible glow, along with many other incredible benefits depending on the potency of each ingredient.
For the best results, include it into your skincare routine in a way that works for you. Some individuals use it in the morning to take advantage of its UV-protective characteristics, while others prefer to use it at night.

So, what does your skin say about your overall health?
Let’s face it, we all want that beautiful, healthy, glowing skin, no matter what age we are, so what we put onto our skin is as important as what we put into our bodies!
Just one look at someone can often tell you their age, habits and overall health! Our skin is our largest organ, vital for protecting us from the sun’s rays and any harmful substances you may come into contact with. It also helps us with temperature control, vitamin production (hello Vitamin D) and immune defence.
In a world where we are bombarded with an over-exposure to toxins such as alcohol, prescription drugs and environmental pollutants, it’s no surprise that we are all becoming increasingly aware of the vast role detoxification plays in our skin health and well-being.
The Mind-Body Connection & Organs of Detoxification
Our main organs of detoxification include the lungs, the skin, and the digestive tract, but also essential organs to our well-being are the liver and kidneys. If our detoxification pathways are not working well, our skin will start to suffer and, as a result, activate common symptoms such as acne, dull and dry skin, itchy skin and conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It becomes crucial to work on our overall health whilst using a beautiful clean skincare range for support.
On top of that, have you ever thought about how your mental and emotional well-being can affect your skin -- and vice versa? The mind-body connection or mind-skin connection is real. If we can use beautiful and naturally gentle products on our skin and surroundings that have a real connection to our senses, we are much more likely to sleep better and wake up looking refreshed. For this, I would look to OSEA’s Vagus Nerve Pillow Mist – a beautiful blend of herbs and oils, including Rosemary and Lavender, which will give you your best beauty sleep.
Stress plays a significant role in our skin and cell regeneration. High cortisol levels can cause increased sebum production leading to blocked pores and acne breakouts. – a great product to pair with the mist is OSEA’s Vagus Nerve Oil. A gentle but effective oil that activates the body’s relaxation response and helps regulate stress. Gently put a couple of drops of Vagus Nerve Oil into your hands, rub them together, and breathe in. Lightly massage in a circular motion along both sides of your neck and behind your earlobes.
Not to mention, that Victoria Beckam as well as Helen, founder of Pure Tincture and her clients swear by the Vagus Nerve Oil!
If you prefer something to consume internally, you can try The Organic Pharmacy Relax Tincture, which has a gorgeous blend of adaptogenic herbs such as Ashwagandha, Holy Basil and Siberian Ginseng. Known to restore your nervous system, helping your body cope better with stress – just take 10–15 drops in water daily whenever you need the extra support. You can be assured that it is there to support you gently, rather than it being something you need to heavily rely on! In other words, it is a non-addictive support to your night time rituals!
My Top Tips For Skin Health
By becoming more educated and mindful of what we put in our bodies and on our skin, we should all be able to achieve that much-desired gorgeous skin and be glowing inside and out!

]]>With a better grasp on maskne and other Covid related skin woes, the next question that arises for us is — if we can still use our skincare items if we’ve been infected with Covid, or fall sick in general…
Can COVID-19 live on our beauty products?
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the guidelines released recommended that we sanitise almost every surface, especially once we’ve been infected but what about our daily makeup and skincare products? Can COVID-19 live on our beauty products?
While there isn’t enough research and evidence on how long the coronavirus remains active outside the body, studies have reported activity anywhere from two hours to nine days depending on the surface. With that said, experts recommend proceeding with your regularly scheduled beauty regimen extremely cautiously. To be extra safe, however, if you contract the coronavirus, it is best to avoid using any products for the duration of the infection, only coming back to them once you have recovered, as it is suspected that they can become safe again if left untouched for several days.
So, if you’re feeling under the weather and are home sick with a cold, here are our tips to keep your skin looking and feeling its best. After all, when you look better, you feel better, right?
Don’t Overlook Sanitising Your Beauty ToolsIncorporate Cooling Gel Masks into Your Skincare Routine
Soothe dried out, dehydrated skin by using one time cooling gel masks like the ones from Inna Organic! With regular use, they can put moisture back in the skin and make it look replenished and refreshed. Due to the cold nature of gel masks, they may also relieve a pounding head and achy face from congestion. To make a gel mask even colder, put it in the refrigerator an hour prior to use!
Moisturise with a deeply hydrating cream or serum
Don’t neglect your skin just because you can’t use your regular products. Consistent and repeated nose blowing, plus all that friction from tissues can quickly make the nose and surrounding area red, dry, and irritated. Invest in a multi purpose product during this time so that you can keep your routine minimal but effective. Look for ingredients such as borage oil, jojoba oil, carrot oil, sesame seed oil, linolenic acid and even shea butter! We love MV SKINTHERAPY Pure Jojoba or Odacite Jojoba Lavender Serum Concentrate.
Mint Infused Skincare
When you’re sick, the skin can look dull while your body fights the infection, as well as making it hard to breathe with all that nose blowing. Try using products that contains natural peppermint or rosemary leaf oils, such as Odacite’s Mint + Green Tea Hydra-Purifying Treatment Mist and/or Odacite Black Mint Cooling Gel Cleanser. These products can hopefully help clear a stuffy head, open up the nasal passages, and stimulate circulation to give your skin a much-needed freshness to feel better.
If you prefer to use what you have, you can also pick up minty essential oils and add a couple of drops to your facial cleanser.
Drink lots of water!
Last, but not least… stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and eating plentiful of fruits! Focus as best you can on keeping fluids running through your body to flush away toxins! Drinking water also decreases under eye and face puffiness — so drink up!
Stay safe and remember, you can take precautions to protect yourself during the COVID-19 pandemic and still keep your skin healthy and nourished!
]]>Whether you are spending this Valentine’s day getting date ready for someone special, or spending some quality downtime with your wonderful self, have you ever thought about how your skincare routine can be an act of love, and a time for quiet reflection?
By its very nature, acts of love and mindfulness, and more importantly acts of self-love are incredibly personal. There are countless different ways that we can practice and invite self-love into our daily routines. Meditation, yoga, exercising, journaling, eating well… basically, anything and everything that deepens the connection with ourselves. It’s about choosing yourself and only you can determine the best way to love you!
Here at Pure Tincture, we believe that our daily rituals are a really good way to demonstrate self-love and mindfulness, starting with our skincare routine. Your skin is your largest organ and everything you apply to your skin is absorbed quickly, circulating in your body. That’s why clean, sustainable, and ethical beauty are SO important. By being mindful of what you put on your body, you not only care for the environment but you practice self-respect and self-restoration daily.
On the other hand, skincare routines require a break from everything else you are doing, they require time and space! An accidental mental health break? Maybe… Not only are your hands too busy to tend to anything else other than yourself, but naturally, all the clean, organic products that you’ve chosen for yourself, such as creams and cleansers with essentials oils contain gorgeous scents known to reduce headaches, ease anxiety, and generally elevate your mood, helping you relax and ease deeper into a state of calm.
We know that skincare is more than just wanting to look better — it’s also about feeling better! These last few months have demanded so much of us, why not take some time off to gift yourself a moment of quiet and calm in this season of love.

Exfoliation is an important step and regular exfoliation does help keep the skin looking fresh and radiant. However, exfoliating, whether physically or chemically, or a combination of both, works by shedding off the top layer of skin and dislodging impurities. As a consequence, the skin surface may be slightly dry after exfoliating. Using a sheet mask, almost everyday, especially on days after exfoliating, can help to elevate the dryness and enhance your glow! This is because moisture is restored to the skin’s upper layers and the skin appears plumped and smoother, this equates to a glow.
Another Pure Tincture expert tip #PTtips, is to use a hydrating serum, specifically a hyaluronic acid serum as a base before applying other serums. Hyaluronic acid can be used with most other products without causing issues. It can even be used under actives such as acids and retinol (more on these two ingredients later). Hyaluronic acid works by binding water to itself, hence keeping the skin hydrated while plumping the skin. The result is glowy and hydrated skin! Trust us and try this trick to see the results for yourself. The Organic Pharmacy Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a great option for a basic hyaluronic acid that works well and blends well with other products. If you are looking for an all in one serum that contains hyaluronic acid, Venn’s Age-Response Compound K booster is a great option. It also contains antioxidants and Venn’s proprietary compound K, trust us, the results will leave you in awe.
Using a vitamin C, especially with an hyaluronic serum, helps to brighten the skin and leaves you with a more even skin tone and brighter skin. The Organic Pharmacy Vitamin C serum contains organic vitamin C that does not irritate the skin and boosts collagen production while combating blemishes, pigmentation and brightening the skin. This is best used in the day on days where acids are not used.
In the evenings, using a retinol helps to speed up and regulate cell renewal, this leaves you with even toned and bright skin for a healthy, dewy glow! In addition, tretinoin helps to combat acne. Start off with a milder retinol formulation and work your way up. We love The Organic Pharmacy’s retinol serum. This serum contains natural organic plant derived retinol and is non-irritating and friendly to the skin. Use retinol only at night and remember to use sunscreen in the day!
Say hello to Glowing Healthy Skin!
]]>Vitamin C (and zinc) is crucial in collagen production. Hence, good old freshly squeezed lemonade and orange juice is actually an excellent and easy to prepare juice that has benefits for the skin! Your body requires Vitamin C to combat oxidative damage, much of which is unavoidable, and to produce collagen. Consuming enough Vitamin C from food sources can reduce inflammation which is a cause of ageing and acne.
Beetroot juice, carrot juice, and tomato juice all contain Vitamin A which is another important Vitamin for the skin and is harder to obtain from food we often consumer. Vitamin A helps to regulate cell function and can combat issues such as acne. In fact, prescription isotretinoin used to treat acne is actually a very concentrated form of Vitamin A! Beetroot juice also contains Vitamin C, K, folic acid and other minerals which have anti-inflammatory properties. A diet that helps keep inflammation levels low is key to maintaining healthy skin that glows and can help in reducing the appearance of inflammatory skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. If these red juices are not to your liking, try squeezing some lemon in them or adding some organic honey (also rich in antioxidants) to balance out the taste for a more palatable juice.
Cucumber juice is not something we often think of. However, blending cucumber with coconut water or adding it to your juice can be a hydrating treat for your skin (and for your body!). Refreshing and pleasant, this juice goes well with honey and is our favourite post work-out quencher. It also goes well with tea infusions as it has a neutral taste.
Papaya, pineapple, and banana juice is something unique to the tropics and easily available for us. Reap the benefits of these tropical gems; packed with enzymes that help digestion, vitamins, potassium, antioxidants, these juices boost hydration and promote sleep. Papaya also contains papain that is actually used in exfoliators to brighten the skin.
Watermelon juice is an excellent sweet treat that also has skin brightening benefits and contains a host of antioxidants to combat inflammation and ageing. For an extra boost, try squeezing lemon to green tea and mixing it with watermelon juice. The healthy fruit cocktail not only boosts hydration levels but is loaded with anti-ageing compounds that can clear your skin and promote an enviable glow.
For those ginger fans, there is one more reason to add the root plant (or its powder) to your juices and teas. Ginger is rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds that have even been shown to suppress lipid peroxidation increase levels of glutathione! These can lead to the maintenance of the skin’s integrity overtime and reduce the signs of ageing while combating blemishes leading to a more even skin tone.
While juicing can definitely contribute to healthy looking skin, it is important to integrate this into a skin-friendly lifestyle. Avoiding intentional sun exposure, not smoking, using SPF consistently, and drinking plenty of water are some examples of sensible skincare lifestyle habits.
]]>Did you know that beyond being a beverage with rich cultural roots and a deep history, tea is actually used in cosmetic formulations as well and has numerous benefits for the skin. Regularly sipping tea can help you reap some of the benefits too! What is an infusion? An infusion simply means adding ingredients to water to create flavour, each time you brew tea or even add warm water to a pack of team you are creating an infusion. Adding essential oils to water or tea is also creating an infusion.
Teas are packed with antioxidants and tea infusions allow us to consume and reap the benefits of these antioxidants in concentrated amounts. Polyphenols are found in tea leaves and are beneficial not only as a free radical scavenger to reduce oxidation and inflammation (anti-ageing), but is also known to regulate blood sugar, improve digestion and repair DNA. All of which can contribute to a healthier looking complexion, a reduction in the signs of ageing and inflammatory skin conditions including acne. However, it is important to note, that consuming tea alone is unlikely to resolve all the problems but may contribute to the improvement of such skin concerns.
Some teas, especially black teas, contain the potent antioxidant theaflavins. They are known to combat inflammation, regulate blood sugar and support hormonal balance within the body. This can contribute to a radiant and glowing complexion. This also supports sensitive skin by reducing overall inflammation and in the long run, would improve the skin’s complexion.
Apart from direct skin benefits, teas can also have a positive impact on our mood, contributing to an improvement in our overall wellness and stress reduction. Afterall, a facial is also about the experience and we aim to create a comfort, stress and fuss free environment that is conducive for a complete retreat.
Chamomile and lavender tea, along with several other floral teas, can boost your mood while allowing you to relax and calm your senses. Our herbal blends include customised selections of organic teas best suited for you.
Teas are also calorie free (good new for those watching your calorie count) and contributes towards better immune function!
Can’t wait to experience an organic tea infusion for yourself? Book yourself in for a facial now. Are you new to Pure Tincture? Contact us directly to find out more about special promotions for first time clients.
]]>Hence, customised facials are what you should be looking out for. All facials at Pure Tincture are customised (we will only use appropriate products for your skin and amend them as required). Our products are also clean, i.e. free from nasty ingredients that can potentially cause irritation, artificial fragrances, and also tested on ourselves.
What is included in a facial?
When one thinks of a facial, they may think of deep cleansing and extraction. This is definitely an integral part of our facials but a facial at Pure Tincture includes so much more. From destination facials for a quick lunchtime escape (a multi-sensory experience for a quick escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, enquire to find out more!), to a customised organic facial that soothes and calms skin or for deep cleansing facials to solve your acne and blemish woes, we have you covered. We also incorporate technology in our facial. Although we believe in using clean and organic skincare, the technology available to use today, including LED, allows us to boost cell regeneration and combat acne causing bacteria as well as soothe sensitive skin in a way that would be difficult to achieve without the help of technology.
Our client Fadizilah describes our facials as “impressive” and notes that they “focus on using organic products to ensure my skin looks hydrated, joyful, and bright. Love the scent of their products which are important to me in a facial”.
Facials are not only a good way to keep our skin’s oil-water balance in check but also a great escape from our daily stressors which contributes to better overall wellbeing. This will leave us with a brighter and healthier looking complexion.
Men can also benefit greatly from facials as they tend to have oilier skin and our facials can help with deeper cleaning to reduce blemishes and acne.
Selected facials also include Radio Frequency (for tightening, firming and collagen stimulation) and Oxygeneo (to brighten, cleanse, hydrate). Enjoy a complimentary (and complementary) head, shoulder and neck massage when doing organic facials with us. This helps to elevate your mood and ease tension, which contributes to ageing.
If I do lasers and injectables, are facials necessary?
Absolutely. In fact, facials are complementary to medical treatments done at aesthetic clinics. However, it is important to have an appropriate interval between facials and invasive treatments. Please consult your practitioner over the necessary interval and preferably, inform us if appropriate.
Dry skin caused by lasers can be alleviated with hydrating facials, deeper cleansing of the pores may enhance the results and prevent breakouts following lasers. Facials help to keep the skin hydrated and balanced between visits to aesthetic clinics.
]]>This is why the delicate part around our eyes requires some additional care. Dullness and skin dryness can often causes of a tired appearance which can lead to us looking fatigued. Fortunately, there are plenty of #skinvestments and organic skincare solutions that are there to help you improve the appearance of the area around your eyes! (Yes, including the eyelid).
The first advise, which most of us neglect, is the use of SPF around the eye area, including on the eyelids. Use a mineral sunscreen to avoid eye irritation as the skin around our eyes in more delicate and thinner. The Earth Harbor Eclipse Sheer Mineral Sunscreen is a mineral sunscreen that also works to blur imperfections and improve the appearance of your skin. Using this may reduce the appearance of undereye circles due to the naturally occurring tint from the ingredients. However, the key goal of using sunscreen is to prevent collagen degradation which can worsen the appearance of undereye circles and fine lines.
If you encounter fine lines, the key to reducing the appearance naturally using organic eye creams, serums, and clean, natural beauty, is to plump the area. Using naturally derived vitamin A and C from organic skincare products can also boost collagen production and improve the appearance of the area overtime.
Start by layering: layering is the key in effective skincare routines. Begin with the lightest products and do not layer active ingredients, i.e. do not mix vitamin C with vitamin A (use them on rotation) and do not use acids with vitamin A as this will cause skin irritation. The Organic Pharmacy Lifting Eye Gel is one of our favourites. This 67% organic formula organic natural extracts to brighten and protect the skin while tightening and lifting the eye area. For those who love roses, this is a perfect match for you. The rose scent lingers and delights your sense. The next step would be to layer it with another product such as the Evolve Organic 360 Eye and Lip Contour which will dramatically improve the appearance of your eyes by protecting and sealing in the moisture. Your eye area will look more hydrated overtime and makeup can be applied with ease.
If you are prone to fine lines and a dry eye area, fear not, there are other products which you can use to satisfy and quench your skin’s thirst. Hyaluronic acid is your best friend when it comes to hydration and plumping the skin. The Evolve Organic Beauty Hyaluronic Eye Complex refreshes and plumps the eye area, leaving you with fresher looking eyes.
If you are looking for a more pampering experience for yourself and your eyes, try our eye add on treatments or use an eye mask at home (refrigerated 😉)]]>Laser: Pico Fractional Mode for textural improvements.
Day 1
I have done more than 30 similar lasers and am used to the one week downtime and decided to try using Venn’s products to see if it could speed up the healing process and social downtime. My skin is usually not sensitised after lasers, just really dry, it soaks up products like a sponge. However, I do experience sensitivity occasionally after lasers and my skin tends to be extremely unbalanced after lasers. These products seemed to have helped with the recovery time and kept my skin balanced throughout the process.
I did not feel any stinging or tingling sensation when applying the Venn products. If you feel a stinging and pulsating sensation, it is probably best to cease using the product.
I used the product before bed under a hydrating mask and after the hydrating mask as a last step. My skin felt really plumped and hydrated and soothed. I also left the products in the fridge to keep it cool for application on my post-laser skin.
Day 2
My skin felt really hydrated and looked really plumped when I woke up. At this stage, I would say my skin was recovering as expected. There was still a lot of redness and after washing my face, my skin felt really dry. I applied the two products and slathered on sunscreen before getting on with my day.
At night, when I washed off the sunscreen, I noticed my skin was healing faster than I had expected! In particular, the scabbing was healing much faster and my skin was glowing and plumped. The dryness was greatly reduced. I applied the two products under a mask and did not have to apply anymore after the mask.
Day 3
Woke up in the morning to see great improvement on my skin. Not only has the scabbing reduced significantly, my skin was not dry at all and was extremely radiant! I continued to apply the products and my skin, at this stage, felt normal; as though I had not done any lasers.
Day 5
I would say my skin has healed faster than the usual 7-9 days of downtime I experience. But what I am truly happy about is the hydration and glow which I experienced when and after using these Venn products. Apart from that, a little goes a long way, I did not have to apply a few pumps as I would usually have had to with other hyaluronic acid serums after lasers. My skin looked extremely plumped and radiant even a week after using these serums, everyone complimented me.
Review by: ZC
The answer is it depends on how specific and thorough you are with your application, how often you reapply and to a lesser extent, your physiology. In truth, most people do not apply enough sunscreen, let alone reapply sunscreen as directed. This is why often a higher SPF number (50++) broad spectrum sunscreen is suggested. Applying too little would give lower coverage and a higher protection level as the base would give you a higher protection in any case compared to a sunscreen with a lower protection factor. I.e. applying an SPF 50++ incorrectly could, in theory, give you an SPF 25 protection while applying SPF 30++ incorrectly could give an SPF 15 level of protection! We love The Organic Pharmacy SPF 50 sunscreen.
In theory, two milligrams of sunscreen should be applied per center meter square of skin. For most people, on average, this is a fifty-cent coin amount for the face and another for the neck. While that may seem more than usual for most of us, this amount should actually be reapplied every two hours, especially if you are under the sun and exposed to UV rays all the time (this includes sitting by the window).
Admittedly, this is not very practical for most of us. One way to manage the white cast that physical sunscreens, which we recommend, may leave, is to layer the sunscreen rather than apply the entire amount in a single application. This would also ensure that areas left out in an earlier application can be covered by another application. If you are not exposed to the sun, for example, if you are in a basement or inside a shopping mall, there is no need to reapply sunscreen every two hours and an earlier application should be sufficient to protect you from incidental exposure at a later part of the day.
The amount actually required for adequate protection reiterates the importance of applying sunscreen under makeup even if the makeup contains SPF protection. Sunscreen makeup should be seen as an additional layer of protection rather than the primary sun protection product. We like using the Suntegrity Pressed Mineral Powder Compact – Translucent, Broad Spectrum SPF 50 to touch up along the day and as a final step before stepping out of the door. Primers with SPF protection are also a great way to layer SPFs! The Suntegrity Natural Moisturising Face Sunscreen and Primer, SPF 30 is a matt and functional hydrating all-in-one product that is a great makeup base.
Among our NEW ARRIVALS, Earth Harbour’s Eclipse Sheer Mineral Sunscreen is a product worth trying. The illuminating sunscreen provides a sheer and natural finish with broad spectrum. In conclusion, apply sunscreen liberally and layer! Stay Sun Safe!]]>The truth is, apart from the standard advise (antioxidants, sunscreen, retinol), the approach and steps that need to be taken for intervention on prevention largely depends on the individual rather than an age band. In this blog, we will be exploring the common early signs of extrinsic ageing and the steps that everyone should take to prevent them and how one could actively manage certain common manifestations of ageing.
With our recent collaborative partnership with Breathe Pilates, we now firmly believe in advocating a three pronged approach to anti-ageing: Skincare, Fitness-Wellness-Diet (Lifestyle), and Stress Management. Admittedly, certain structural changes such as changes in bone density and structural changes due to natural chorological ageing is a genetic process and is difficult to avoid, however, distinguishing between looking “tired” and “old” may be the first step in managing expectations and addressing the issues that are truly affecting you.
Have you ever caught up with a friend and noticed that just in a short period of time they looked “Aged”? There is a high chance they simply look tired or fatigued rather than looking older in a short period of time. This is common, particularly during times like these, that people feel fatigued and frustrated, causing dark eye circles, lackluster skin and a dull complexion or perhaps even acne outbreaks in some.
Fortunately, this is far easier to deal with than structural changes caused by natural ageing. By using a three-pronged approach, you will not only appear, but also feel, uplifted and more radiant in a short period of time. Everyone can benefit from sunscreen and brightening serums at any age. Using antioxidant rich serums not only combats dullness and increases protection against free radicals, but also encourages collagen production and healthy cell turnover. Using antioxidants daily (during the day) is extremely beneficial to anyone.
We love The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Duo which is packed with antioxidants, vitamins and herbal extracts. The radiant oil-serum blend is packed with potent, skin-loving ingredients for a radiant, healthy glow. Suitable for all skin types and for daily use. If you are looking for something more advance that will plump and lift at the same time, Venn Age-Response Compound K Hyaluronic Booster is supercharged with 2,700 ppm of VENN’s patented form of Ginsenoside Compound K, a key anti-aging active in Panax ginseng with free-radical-fighting antioxidant power as strong as Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) but without oxidation and sensitization issues.
Did you know that apart from slathering your skin with protective antioxidants, leading an anti-inflammatory lifestyle is just as important? Pack your breakfast bowls with antioxidant rich berries and reduce stress by managing daily stressors and working out. For some ideas on how to start the day right, check out our breakfast ideas blog post.
Regular exercise is also pertinent in maintaining glowing skin. Ever wondered why your skin was particularly glowy after a workout? Thank oxygen for that! Apart from strenuous gym workouts, lighter workouts such as Pilates also promoted blood circulation and balanced muscular strength which improves overall fitness and wellbeing.
Anti-ageing is a journey and a lifestyle, taking a multi-pronged approach is much more effective and rewarding.
]]>Exfoliating, in short, sloughs off dead skins and surface congestions revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Just think of dead skin cells as dust on a surface, without brushing it off, you would not be able to reveal the surface. Same goes with exfoliation. However, using an overly abrasive cloth to remove dust from the surface or over doing it could scratch the surface, damaging it. The same could be said about over exfoliating the skin.
Physical Exfoliators
The most common form of exfoliation that we encounter to a certain extent probably on a daily basis, physical exfoliation, as implied by the name, physically removes dead skin cells and surface impurities from the top layer of the skin. Using a cotton pad? That is an extremely mild form of physical exfoliation. Using a knit or towel? That too is a gentle form of physical exfoliation.
There are products which contain abrasive particles such as sugar or nut shells, which are used to physically buff off dead skin cells. These are the physical exfoliators that beauty brands often refer to as exfoliators. Physical exfoliators are best for some quick exfoliation and if your skin is feeling particularly rough. However, in general, they are not the best for sensitive skin unless they are formulated for sensitive skin types. It is important to note that physical exfoliation is not recommended for inflammatory skin conditions including existing inflamed acne outbreaks.
Some good products we recommend include The Organic Pharmacy’s Flower Petal Deep Cleanser and Exfoliating Mask. This is a weekly skin treatment with Montmorillonite Clay to draw out impurities and a combination of Oats, Milk and crushed Rose of May petals to gently exfoliate for perfectly refreshed skin. Activated with water or a toner, the powder of Flower Petal Deep Cleanser & Mask turns to paste that also soothes and balances with organic extracts of Chamomile, Lavender and Rose Geranium. The rose petals are gentle enough for sensitive skin types and the recommended usage of a washcloth or knit at the end further enhances the gentle exfoliating action. We also love the floral scent of this product.
The Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser is another highly recommended gentle exfoliant suitable for sensitive skin types. Natural sugar crystals slough off dead skin cells, oil buildup and impurities to reduce the appearance of blemishes, fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation for a smooth, even toned complexion. Rice flour extract stimulates circulation while chamomile extract calms inflammation and cools redness. Use as a second cleanse for a more thorough detox cleanse.
Chemical Exfoliators
Chemical Exfoliators is a broader category that include acids and enzymes. Gentle chemical exfoliators are recommended for extremely sensitive skin types and acids are recommended for blemished and acne prone skin types.
Using a light physical exfoliator followed by a chemical exfoliator is also a good way to allow for deeper exfoliation and deeper penetration of products. Chemical exfoliators are usually mainly either to be AHAs and BHAs (although there are others).
Enzyme peels are highly recommended for sensitive skin types. We love the Suki Resurfacing Enzyme Peel Masque which eliminates toxins, combats signs of aging and clears acne for smooth, vibrant skin. Salicylic acid rids pores of excess oil and debris, sheds dead skin cells and buffs skin for a blemish-free complexion. Fruit enzymes unite with glycolic acid to promote new cell growth for visibly younger-looking, suppler skin. This would be considered a combination AHA and BHA exfoliator.
The OSEA Vitamin C Probiotic Polish is also an excellent exfoliator for sensitive skin. It contains both physical and chemical exfoliators. This water-activated powder exfoliant with 50% Vitamin C fades the appearance of hyperpigmentation, dark spots and uneven skin tone. Superfine Bamboo and Rice powders with fermented Pomegranate Enzymes gently remove surface build-up. Probiotics also calm inflammation and reduces redness caused by harsher exfoliators.
How often to exfoliate?
The general rule of thumb is once to twice a week if you are using a specific product for exfoliation. However, normal skin types can tolerate more frequent exfoliations. The best rule to follow would be to scale back whenever your skin is showing signs of irritation which includes redness and sensitivity and exfoliate more frequently if your skin is feeling dull and clogged.
]]>For those who invest heavily in #skinvestments and treatments for the face, neck, and scalp, overlooking the body could be undermining your efforts. It is often said that the hands of a person reveals their true age as the hands is often overlooked in our anti-aging routine. With more than ever frequent hand washing during the pandemic, our hands have become more susceptible to dryness and skin barrier damage (which contributes to dryness). In the long run, this would accelerate the ageing process of our hand’s skin.
Home care for body skin can be as easy and simplistic as you want it to be, however, undeniably, everyone loves to occasionally indulge in at home spa days for some #metime. Here are some ideas on how you can turn your evening at home into a spa like experience and some tips on daily maintenance.
Daily Maintenance
Hydration and sunscreen (unsurprisingly). The same principles apply for your facial skincare. However, many of us experience drier skin on certain parts of our bodies such as our legs and arms. Since our body skin, particularly on our legs and arms, has less pores and is less prone to congestion, using oils and body creams would unlikely cause any breakouts like on our face.
Sun protection is particularly important as UV rays can damage our skin and reduce collagen and elastin levels—the two most important proteins that keep our skin looking youthful and bouncy.
A good habit would be to use a hand cream after washing our hands to seal in the moisture and repair the skin’s barrier integrity. Since this is not practical all the time, we recommend doing it as often as possible. Carry a tube of hand cream with you at all times or pack some body cream with you in a makeup container to keep in your handbag. The MV Skintherapy Hand Rescue is a handy product to keep on hand.
Using a body oil, particularly immediately after showering or taking a bath, will lock in the moisture and prevent dryness. We highly recommend the OSEA Undaria Argan Oil for the hands, neck, and chest, or even on the face. This soothing face oil delivers calming hydration and instant radiance to dry, sensitive skin. Moroccan Argan Oil infused with Undaria algae nourishes with essential fatty acids to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Perfect for maintaining the appearance of visible areas such as the neck and chest. Our client, Angelia Lim says she “Love(s) how it keeps my skin supple, yet not leave a too oily feeling”. You can then use the OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil for a comforting and pampering experience for the rest of your body. This oil leaves the skin feeling soft like velvet and has a silky texture, we use this in our facials for the body massage.
If you are looking for a lighter weight body hydrating product, we highly recommend the OSEA Ocean Lotion which contains Nutrient-rich seaweed delivers vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Shea Butter, Macadamia and Kukui oils increase the appearance of elasticity. If your skin is particularly dry, you may use this as a serum below an oil.
If you are concerned about loss of skin firmness, The Organic Pharmacy Neck and Chest Firming Lotion contains some ingredients worth paying attention to. Formulated with Hibiscus Extract that densifies and stimulates collagen and it is also rich in amino acids. High performing extract of Kigelia has superior firming properties and contains antioxidant phytonutrients. Its remodelling efficacy has been proven on the breast and bottom after 42 days of use. A significant moisturizing and elasticity increase has been shown after 28 days of once a day use. We love using this on our hands as well to give it an added boost.
At home spa body treatments
Apart from hydrating, exfoliating regularly helps to buff off dead skin cells and grime, leaving us with softer and more youthful looking skin. Our two favourite scrubs are the OSEA Salts of The Earth Body Scrub and The Organic Pharmacy Cleopatra’s Body Scrub. They both contain gentle naturally derived scrubs that buff off the skin without causing microscopic damage which is often a problem with harsher scrubs. As an added benefit, the organic oils will help boost your mood while uplifting your senses, transporting you to a state of ultimate relaxation.
We recommend scrubbing twice a week and following immediately with a moisturiser or oil. Pro tip: if your skin is dry, slap on some oil before laying down in your bathtub.
]]>On a separate note, we have two new brand arrivals this month! Check out MV Skin Therapy and Earth Harbor products, now stocked at Pure Tincture. These plant based organic brands are clean, cruelty-free, and contain all the ingredients mother nature has to offer, backed by science and formulated for results.
Back acne is a common problem. Caused by the same pesky acne causing bacteria that causes acne on other parts of the body, including our face, they can wreak havoc on our backs. While working from home may be convenient for some of us, spending hours on the same chair can cause bacteria to accumulate overtime. Definitely try to wipe down furniture regularly and keep clothes clean if you are experiencing back acne.
A deep detox professional back treatment that includes a steam, mask, and professional spa grade products, along with extraction, can help with congestion, blemishes, and clogged pores on the back. The back is a blind spot for us; we cannot really see our back without the help of a mirror. This often means early signs of congestion can be missed and we might not be cleaning our backs and exfoliating every spot of our back regularly to prevent the buildup of dead skin.
We also have a professional extraction machine that deeply detoxifies while painlessly extracting and clearing congestion on the back.
Meridian points, also known as channel network, is a concept in TCM which are thought to be paths where our vital energy flows. Congestion can lead to chronic pain and fatigue. Meridian treatments aim to target these points and clear congestion through a gentle and natural touch without the use of needles, such as in acupuncture.
Utilising TCM massage and tools, this treatment encourages blood flow and promotes vitality, easing tension and leaving you with a glow from head to toe.
Looking for a lasting alternative to extensions? YUMI™ Lashes is a treatment to lift and boost your natural lashes. No lash extensions needed. The YUMI™ Lashes effect lasts between 8 and 12 weeks, which is the natural life cycle of an eyelash.
]]>It is a well known fact that exercise, particularly cardio, boosts oxygen flow and improves our cardiovascular health. This is why we always leave the gym with an enviable glow and for those of us who exercise regularly, we would be used to seeing the glow in the mirror. This has been backed by studies which have also shown that regular exercise improves our quality of life and decreases stress, which would promote an improvement in our overall well being.
Another less known positive benefit of improved blood circulation is an increase in the elimination of toxins by our vitals. An improved overall circulation boosts the rate at which toxins are expelled naturally from our body, promoting better overall health and reducing the negative effects of toxins. Exercise also oxygenates the cells at a cellular level and apart from promoting a healthy glow, may to some degree, reduce acne breakouts.
Now that we know the benefits that regular exercise can have on ageing, it is important to note that apart from consistency, the nature of the workout we select may also play an important role. A study has shown that regular aerobic exercise and HIIT exercises can promote an increase in the length of telomere, this was compared to a control group and a group that did only resistance workouts. This is good news for the majority of us as incorporating some form of aerobic exercise into our daily routine is easily achievable. For instance, getting off one or two stops earlier and walking briskly is an easy way to incorporate some form of aerobic activity. Bear in mind that we would have to be consistent and aim to achieve at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity on most days of the week.
However, there is also ample evidence that resistance or strength training has a positive effect on anti-ageing at a cellular level. This is especially true from the age of forty when we begin to lose muscle mass and our cellular functions begin to become sluggish. Strength training has been proven to reverse ageing at a cellular level by improving insulin resistance and promoting higher energy levels. This also helps us maintain better mental function well into our older ages.
So what is the best way to exercise to complement our overall anti-ageing routine? The truth is, a combination of both forms of exercise would probably be the best approach for most of us. Rotating them would also reduce monotony and diversify our exercise programmes.
Happy Exercising!
]]>Appetiser: Fruit Platter
A combination of fruits with varying colours is a great way to start the day. Fruits contains a variety of antioxidants and enzymes which help helps combat free radicals in the body and aid digestion. Fruits are also rich in vitamins which are essential for collagen synthesis. A platter of oranges, papaya, berries, and watermelon paired with a serving of yoghurt gives your body a booster of vitamins, antioxidants, probiotics, and fiber, all of which are essential for combating ageing.
Main dish: Kale & Shrimp Omelette
If you are not a big fan of having kale salad, an easy and delicious way to sneak this super green into your diet is by adding them to an omelet! We love having an omelette with kale, tomato, onions, and shrimps for our breakfast. Apart from providing us with a healthy serving of protein to keep us full, kale is an excellent source of vitamins and tomatoes contains vitamin A which is essential for skin health. Onions are rich in antioxidants and shrimps or prawns contain omega-3, known to flight inflammation and benefit the skin. I personally prefer Spinach to Kale, just because it is softer and easier to purchase.
Dessert: Overnight Oat
Desserts can be healthy! A small cup of overnight oats loaded with fruits and nuts and topped with chia seeds gives your body another antioxidant boost. Rich in antioxidants and healthy oils, this simple recipe also combats inflammation and fights free radicals.
Drink: Green Tea
Containing polyphenols and six different types of catechins, with epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and epicatechin gallate (ECG), Green Tea is a miracle drink for your skin (and body). Green tea has been well studied and has been proven to be rich in antioxidants which combats free radicals and may contribute to reduced signs of ageing in the long term. Apart from that, Green tea is believed to help combat acne. Why not add in a squeeze of lemon for some extra vitamins?
]]>There are many reasons why we may prefer ingredients of natural origins as opposed to laboratory synthesized ingredients, but we may also wonder, are there any drawbacks in using natural ingredients? Is the potency limited? Today we will explore this topic in depth and address a few common questions while comparing the advantages and disadvantages of choosing natural ingredients over synthetic ingredients.
We have all heard of the benefits of various vitamins in skincare, such as Vitamin A (retinol), Vitamin B3 (niacinamide), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, etc. Most of these formulations are usually lab synthesized for multiple reasons: they are easier to synthesize, more cost effective to synthesize, may be more stable, and may have a longer shelf life.
Does this mean all naturally derived vitamin ingredients are a marketing hoax? No. The answer isn’t as straight forward as it seems. Studies have shown benefits of using naturally derived vitamins over lab synthesized equivalents. The above study has shown that naturally derived vitamin C penetrates the skin better and that lab synthesized vitamin C had to be formulated at a very precise pH in order to be stable and effective.
If you have not begun integrating a vitamin C into your skincare routine, you should definitely give this power-house ingredient a try. Vitamin C when topically applied, has been shown to combat free radical damage, pigmentation, and brighten the skin while even reversing free radical and sun damage and encouraging collagen synthesis! Use under your sunscreen as an added protection against environmental aggressors. As a real life example from the Pure Tincture team, we noticed the back of our necks, where we only applied sunscreen and moisturizer tanned from incidental exposure while the face area and front of the neck did not with vitamin C application.
The Odacite 15% Vitamin C Serum is a 100% natural serum that contains superfood Acai, invigorating Passion Fruit, hydrating Meadowfoam, antioxidant-rich Wild Carrot and revitalizing Rosehip & Pomegranate to provide the skin with a new sensation of youth and vital glow. Alternatively, The Organic Pharmacy Vitamin C is a highly stabalised formula with 91% organic origin.
However, for other common ingredients such as peptides and niacinamide, the jury is not as clear. Hence, it is important to look at the formulation and the research the company has done in formulating the product. For example, the Venn Vitamin B Activated All-In-One Concentrate has strong research backing it up. Scientifically formulated with VENN’s proprietary Concentric Technology™ using Vitamins B1 (Thiamine HCL), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacinamide), B5 (Panthenol), B7 (Biotin), and B9 (Folic Acid), 11 Amino Acids (including 8 Essential Amino Acids), and VENN's patent-pending water-solubilized Mastic Gum as key ingredients to deeply hydrate and effectively improve the skin’s complexion in a single step.
Should you use only 100% natural and organic products? That is ultimately a personal decision to be made. What we would recommend is researching the brand and ingredients well and speaking to a professional in regards to suitable skincare products. It is also important to avoid certain ingredients which has been proven to be irritating to the skin and may pose health risks such as artificial fragrances, DEA, MEA, Formaldehyde, Phthalates, etc. When shopping with us, we have filtered and scrutinized the brands thoroughly so you may rest assured, all our stocked products are clean.

What not to include
What to include
Our favourite hyaluronic acid serum product is the Evolve Organic Beauty Hyaluronic Serum 200 that contains 200mg hyaluronic acid per bottle, proven to hydrate skin from within and plump up fine lines and wrinkles. Organic pomegranate extract softens and protects.
Our Agent Nateur Holi (Water) Pearl And Rose Hyaluronic Toner will accelerate your recovery process. This hydrating serum uses organic plant extracts, precious minerals, and natural acid to instantly plump the skin, diminish the appearance of pores, stimulate collagen production, and gently remove expired cells, reviving the complexion and revealing an ageless, dewy glow. Try these “Tried and Tested” recommendations and let us hear your views too.
]]>Leave extraction to the professionals. Inappropriate technique or popping a pimple that is inflamed could cause further inflammation and cause the acne causing bacteria to spread if not done properly leading to a worsening in the breakout, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or worse, scaring!
Instead, use a clay mask to soothe and cleanse and let the mask gently decongest your pores. This will hasten the cycle of the pimple and the recovery time and reduce the chances of scarring. One of our best sellers, the OSEA Red Algae Mask, is an organic red clay mask that contains anti inflammatory ingredients that helps to soothe and calm the skin while absorbing excess sebum. Perfect for use as a mask or as a spot treatment.
Using a salicylic acid cleanser, followed by a scrub, then a glycolic acid toner and then an overnight brightening acid mask? You could be over exfoliating your skin which could be the cause of the breakout.
Regular exfoliation and BHAs help keep acne at bay, but by over exfoliating the skin, irritation and a compromised skin barrier would lead to inflammation and in some people this can trigger an acne outbreak. Keep exfoliation to twice a week and do not exfoliate inflamed skin with an active acne outbreak until the outbreak begins to calm down.
Instead, opt for lightweight soothing serums to work on reducing the inflammation and to prevent any irritation. Anti-acne products are often drying and it is important to ensure that your skin is sufficiently hydrated. The OSEA Hyaluronic Sea Serum is a concentrated fragrance free marine based hydrating serum that has excellent hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties. Suitable for all skin types, oil free lightweight serums are particularly handy during outbreaks.
We have seen great results from lightening of scars to clearer skin by incorporating this item in our clients’ skincare routine. We do not recommend synthetic retinol may normally irritate the skin. The ones we have tried and strongly recommend are PAI ROSEHIP BIOREGENERATE Rosehip Seed & Fruit Universal Facial Oil, Naya Glow Cacay + A and The Organic Pharmacy Retinol Serum
Avobenzones, benzophenones, oxyphenones, methoxycinnamate and para-aminobenzoic acid, UV blockers found in chemical sunscreens, are all potential acne triggers. Instead opt for physical sunscreens that do not generate heat when deflecting UV rays, unlike chemical sunscreens which absorb heat causing a thermal reaction on the skin which can potentially exacerbate irritation. The PAI BRITISH SUMMER TIME Zinc & Cotton Extract SPF 30 Sensitive Sunscreen is a lightweight physical sunscreen formulated for sensitive skin. This makes it ideal for anyone with active outbreaks as skin that is actively breaking out is more prone to irritation.
]]>We all know two things in life are inevitable—death and taxes. The third is, undoubtedly, ageing. With age, it is natural to experience a certain degree of hair loss, and for the majority, this is determined genetically. However, certain lifestyle factors can also influence the level of hair loss experienced.
Hair loss, known as alopecia, can affect any part of the body, not just your scalp. This can be caused by a myriad of reasons including hormones, medical reasons or treatments such as chemotherapy, ageing and genetics. Men tend to experience greater hair loss than women, a quick internet search of “male-pattern baldness” would give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of scalp hair loss for men.
Initial and early signs of balding may not be as obvious as you might think. Similarly, strands of hair does not indicate a hair loss problem, in fact, it is perfectly normal to shred between 50-100 strands of hair per day. Thinning hair and patch boldness are often the telltale signs of hair loss and an indication that intervention may be needed in order to preserve a full and lush scalp. Fortunately, with technological advancements, there are now plenty of surgical and non-surgical medical options that can effectively address balding issues. These are however, often expensive. Early prevention before the first signs start to develop is a much more sensible approach, just like using SPF daily instead of baking in the sun then going for aesthetical corrective procedures for sun damage.
Lifestyle Factors
Diet: Unsurprisingly, diet has a role in maintaining healthy hair. The American Academy of Dermatology confirms that protein is important in preventing hair loss. Similarly, iron, vitamin B, essential fatty acids, and zinc deficiency can also contribute to hair loss issues.
Extreme stress: We are all aware that stress can wreak havoc in our lives. Stress causes hormonal imbalances and can cause temporary hair loss but chronic stress can also cause inflammation which can further accelerate hair loss in the long run as inflammation can reduce the hair follicle’s ability to produce new hair.
Excessive sebum: Excessive sebum on the face can cause acne breakouts, excessive sebum on the scalp can cause hair loss. When sebum builds up in the pores of the scalp, this may cause a high level of 5-alpha-reductase to build up which clogs the hair’s follicles. This can be simply resolved by regularly washing your scalp with suitable products. Do take care not to use strong oil removing shampoo as it will encourage more sebum productions.
Key Ingredients to Look Out For In Hair Care Products
Caffeine: There is plenty of research to show that topically applied caffeine (from products) stimulates and energises the scalp, increasing cell activity and causes new hair to grow at a faster rate.
Peptides: Peptides work by strengthening and nourishing the scalp resulting in a fuller appearance from improved hair growth. However, do not use peptides with hair care products that contain acids.
Pure Tincture’s Picks

LUNA NECTAR ATMOSPHERE HAIR DENSITY & SCALP SERUM: Lightweight concentrated serum formulated with peptides, vitamins, and herbal extracts that achieves the look of the fuller, denser, and thicker hair, as well as contributing to the condition of the scalp. Take time to massage the serum into the scalp by moving the scalp skin around the skull to encourage blood flow for optimum follicles nourishment. Night application
INNA ORGANIC CYPRESS SCALP BALANCING SPRAY: Contains a potent cocktail of essential oils to soothe the scalp, balance sebum, nourishe hair roots. Suitable for sensitive scalp. Take time to massage the serum into the scalp by moving the scalp skin around the skull to encourage blood flow for optimum follicles nourishment. (Day Application)
Research has shown that keeping a healthy skincare barrier is pertinent in preventing resident microbiota from becoming pathogenic. Without going too much into the science of the specific kinds of microorganisms, it is sufficient for most of us to keep in mind that the general rules for sensitive skin applies in maintaining healthy microbe balance and a healthy skin barrier function.
One skincare ingredient that recently has attracted much attention is probiotics. Many may already have incorporated a probiotic supplement or simply probiotic rich foods such as yoghurts or kimchi, and may have seen positive changes in our skin. In fact, a member of the Pure Tincture team has seen a dramatic improvement in inflammatory acne after regularly taking probiotics.
Apart from oral probiotics, many products now include probiotics as part of their formulations with an aim to encourage a healthier skin flora and reduce the symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions. An over consumption of pro-inflammatory food (ultra-processed, deep fried, sweetened, preserved), stressful lifestyle that is poorly managed, lack of sleep, and other factors can cause an imbalance in our gut microbe and eventually affect our skin. This often manifests itself through inflammatory skin conditions such as acne or rosacea flare ups.
Recent scientific literature suggests that the skin’s microflora plays an important role in the regulation of the skin’s immune and inflammatory response; in other words, a well-balanced skin microflora could potentially reduce inflammatory skin conditions. Regularly incorporating these sensitive-skin friendly products are definitely worth the shot, especially since many of them have other beneficial ingredients such as antioxidants and skin hydrating ingredients.
Pure Tincture’s top picks for improving your skin’s (and scalp) microflora.
