Why do i want to switch my skin care range to organic skin care products?
I have suffered from problematic, acne-prone skin since my teenage years. To combat the acne breakouts, I have turned to almost every solution available out there! First I used ProActiv, which helped reduce the breakouts but also left my skin red, raw and very irritated. I put up with this though (foolishly) until my skin started rebelling and breaking out even more. Next, my doctor put me on Accutane, which somehow didn't work, although it left my skin flaky and peeling. I was ashamed of my face! I turned to antibiotics coupled with Benzoyl Peroxide cream. But BP cream turned my skin red and itchy....I have almost forgotten what it means to have normal, itch-free, flake-free skin.
In fact, it was while reading the booklet that came with the BP cream that I noticed, in small print, that the manufacturer had indicated that it could be carcinogenic but there was NO PROOF. I was really quite shocked. Then, I came across The Green Beauty Guide by Julie Gabriel, and in contrast to all the harsh and toxic formulations I had subjected my skin to over the years, organic skincare seemed so soothing, pure and clean. Most of all, it seemed to be tender and respectful to my skin.
That is why I am keen to sign up for this challenge. I have never tried organic skincare before, and this will be the start of an exciting - and hopefully fruitful - new journey for me! I just want to have healthy, normal skin again.
Verdict on Each Product:
Madara Deep Purifying Foam Cleanser (1 week): I like this cleanser a lot. I use it after my cleansing oil and it leaves my skin feeling firm and clean (not dry or stripped of moisture). It is really quite gentle, which is good for my sensitive skin. No stinging, no itching, no tightness at all, just a clean and soothing feeling. The faint rosewater scent is also very soothing.
Suki Concentrated Balancing Toner (3 weeks): Before switching over to organic skincare, I never used toner because I had read in magazines that toners are harsh and overdrying on the skin, and basically an unnecessary step in the cleansing process. However, this Suki toner is very gentle, soothing and refreshing. I love using it just before moisturizing, as it "softens" my skin and helps my skin absorb more of the good properties of the next step (the Suki facial oil).
Suki Pure Facial Moisture Balancing (3 weeks): Love this!!! It is my favourite product since I started organic skincare. I was a bit hesitant about putting oil (!!) on my face at first, because I have oily, acne-prone skin. But amazingly, this oil does not clog my pores at all. It does even feel heavy. I apply a generous 3-4 drops all over my face, taking time to massage the oil into my skin. No itchiness, no stinging, no redness. The next morning, my skin feels firm and soft. However, the most amazing thing is that ever since I started using this, my skin has changed from being oily to NORMAL skin! I no longer suffer from excessive oil production on my face. Of course, I still have a T-zone that tends to get shiny during the day, but I no longer have to use primer, or worry about blotting 2-3 times. Amazing!
Suki Transformative Cleansing Clay (1 week): I use this as a spot treatment. I still break out a bit (during that time of the month usually) although not as much as before. When I sense spots coming, I use this clay as an overnight spot treatment. It does not deliver instant, overnight results, but after 3-4 nights of spot treatment, I noticed that my zits had shrunk. This spot treatment is good because, although it works slowly, it is not harsh, does not cause redness, stinging or flakiness, and actually feels good!
Madara Deep Moisture Gel (1 week): A nice, soothing basic day moisturizer. Now that I have normal skin, I need a moisturizer that actually moisturizes BUT also has some oil control properties (for my T-zone...). This moisturizer does a good job - it is a watery gel that sinks in fast and dries to a matte finish that is a good base for my makeup. Previously, other mattifying moisturizers I used always left my skin flaky - this moisturizer does not, which is great.
OVERALL: Am very, very happy that I've started organic skincare because my skin feels better than ever before. Of course, this does not mean that I have perfect skin. In fact, I still develop a bit of spots and redness occasionally, and I still have acne scars from previous breakouts that have yet to fade. But I am not looking for perfect, airbrushed skin. I just want normal, healthy skin :) Am glad that organic skincare is helping me to look after my skin with respect and gentleness. I know that patience is needed after so many years of mistreating my skin. Can't wait to see how my skin will improve over the next 2 - 3 weeks!
