Up Close with Suki Kramer, Founder of pure organic skin care suki pure.

sukikramer1. What’s the most common misconception about organic skincare?

that pure + organic products cannot produce exceptional, visible, quick results. our products are in a category all their own - a true synergy of cutting edge science with pure, holistic organic to produce advanced formulas that really work without harming living things. and when we say that, we mean humans too.

2. If I have no real allergies to regular skincare, why should I switch to organic?

we see an epidemic of people in their late 30s to 50s coming to us with sudden breakouts of acne, rosacea, eczema, and other undiagnosable and untreatable skin ailments. This is from a lifetime of exposure to synthetics and toxins. many of our clients are frustrated with the lack of results they find from mainstream products, like i was. and like food allergies, allergies to topicals can spring up at any point in your life and you just won't know it. a much greater reason of course is for quality of health and well being.

studies come out every day that suddenly a cosmetic ingredient never tested before (thousands of cosmetic chemicals are always on the market that aren't tested, by the way) has recently been tested and it has been proven unsafe, taken off the market, or the regulation is such that suddenly manufacturers have to use it in far lower amounts. or studies come out that find the ingredient showing up in breast tumor tissue. why would anyone want to potentially risk their health to use a lotion? in the case of high performing products, i can see the allure perhaps, but certainly not in the case of skin care. did you know that nanochemicals go right into your bloodstream? and those ingredients are in many, many products.

it's also for a lot of people, like me, being disappointed with what has previously been available. i certainly was when i started this company. most of the "natural" products out there just didn't cut it. things are different now.

it's a quality issue all around. i think if people knew even a fraction of what i knew about what went into mainstream products, they wouldn't touch them.

How to Deal with and Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite

The terms cottage cheese, orange peel, mattress phenomenon, and hail damage shouldn't bring to mind images of cellulite, but sadly, they do. Cellulite is reported to affect over 80% of women today. Described as visible dimpling and bumpy looking fat on the body; Cellulite is not an actual disease, but it can be just as debilitating. Don't believe all the hype about surgical procedures to cure cellulite though, because you could be conned out of a lot of money to treat an incredibly tricky and persistent condition.

The root causes of cellulite remain unknown, but scientists have discovered and identified the trigger factors. Usually occurring after puberty in both men and women, though more often in women, fat cells become swollen and enlarged, pressing on the connective fibers and tissues which surround them. This process makes skin thicker, and as the fat cells press against the overlying tissues, skin becomes pulled down in sections to reveal the dimpled and uneven texture known as cellulite.

A common misconception is that only overweight people get cellulite when, in fact, thin people are just as prone. Cellulite is directly linked to hormone production, especially estrogen, which is why women are much more prone to exhibit symptoms. Because of this, birth control and hormone supplements can increase the appearance and amount of cellulite on the body.

Stopping the Clock : Culprits of Aging Skin

Aging is inevitable, and as we get older, the effects of aging on our bodies becomes more apparent. Generally, our skin starts to age while we are in our twenties, but it should take several decades for that aging to catch up to us and become visible. Today, however, the effects of aging are usually all too visible for everyone to see.

Common effects of aging on the skin are wrinkles, age spots, and dryness. As we age, our skin produces less oil, which leaves our skin vulnerable to the climate and, therefore, extreme drying. People also generally experience thinner skin due to skin fat loss, which leaves skin sallow and less full. Unfortunately, gravity also has its effect, and begins to pull everything down.

Contrary to popular belief though, there are ways to combat the appearance and severity of skin aging. First and foremost is the regulation of sun exposure. Direct sunlight is one of the biggest contributors to premature aging. To avoid the effects of sun damage, wear an SPF of 15 or higher every day and wear protective clothing. The sun is potent all year long. Also, avoid false sunlight and UV rays in tanning beds and sun lamps. Such lights can prove even more harmful than normal sunlight. Blue-eyed and fair-skinned people have been proven to show more direct signs of aging and should be especially careful when in the sun.
