Truth about Comedogenic Ingredients
At Pure Tincture, we are dedicated to select organic skin care products that are not just 100% pure, effective but are also non pore clogging (non-comedogenic) and non-irritating. Organic and non-comedogenicity are both very important criterions in our selection process, Using organic skin care is important but we also want to make sure that the products will not cause any breakouts after long term use. It is not just about feeling good but also about looking good from using organic skin care products. However, in organic skin care products, it can be quite a challenge to find skin care products that contain absolutely NO comedogenic ingredients as many natural ingredients have the potential to clog pores. These ingredients are added for its other goodness like moisturizing or regenerating factor. We strive to find a balance in our search.
Thus in our search, we look out for organic products that will firstly, contain NO comedogenic ingredients. If that is not possible, products that contain mild comedogenic ingredients in very low percentage.
The term “Non- Comedogenic” is a term applied to oils, lotions, and skin creams that do not block pores. These have been tested on the oily skins of human volunteers or inside rabbit ears. These products are less likely to cause blackheads (open comedones) or whiteheads (closed comedones) in patients. All people do not react similarly to all ingredients. Below is a list of ingredients with potential to clog pores in descending order. This list is intended to be only a guideline, and does not make the claim that these ingredients are detrimental to all skins. However, highly comedogenic and moderately comedogenic ingredients should be completely avoided on anyone with a history of acne or product sensitivity.
The factors that we take into consideration in our non-comedogenicity selection process are:
- Quantity of the ingredient used in the product with the largest quantity listed at the top of the ingredient lists.
- Presence of other comedogenic ingredients.
- Length of time the finished product remains on the skin.
- If the product used on the face or body.
